Students who start strong should successfully complete the first 5 courses they attempt, but how much impact does withdrawing from or failing one or more of those classes have? Using data from first-time-in-college (FTIC) students starting in fall terms from 2015 to 2020, the Office of Institutional Research & Analytics (OIRA) evaluated the North Star completion rate of students who attempted at least 15 college-level credit hours in their first academic year. In addition to considering the observed outcomes for these students, OIRA conducted a predictive analytics study that controlled for variables such as student demographics, high school performance, residency, socioeconomic status, academic details at entry (e.g., dual credits, educational intent, college readiness, area of study, and enrollment intensity), terms elapsed to attempt 15 hours, where they took ACC courses, and financial aid information. This model expands upon a previous completion study found here: What Predicts North Star Completion at ACC
