Happy New Year and Welcome Back to the Data Debrief Video Series!

College affordability has emerged as a top priority of our new Chancellor. Affordability concerns both the basic needs students need to support, like food, housing, transportation, and childcare, as well as, the other educational costs like tuition, fees, and textbooks. One way ACC helps improve the affordability of textbooks is through the use of Open Educational Resources (OER) and Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) materials.

44% of all credit students for fall 2023 took at least 1 ZTC/OER class. OIRA conducted a survey of these ACC students enrolled in a credit ZTC or OER class to learn more about students’ experiences with these instructional materials. The survey included questions on how students pay for college, how costs of course materials influence their ability to enroll, the financial impacts of ZTC/OER options, awareness of ZTC/OER, experiences in ZTC/OER, and access to technology off campus. In this video, Dr. Jenna Cullinane Hege highlights these exciting insights that were discovered in this survey.
